Three days in Phu Quoc covers the island's two ends and its best beach. Day 1 is the south: the Hon Thom cable car in the morning, then sunset and the evening show at Sunset Town. Day 2 is a boat day in the An Thoi islands, snorkelling in clear water. Day 3 is Sao Beach, a fish sauce house and crab at Ham Ninh, or the theme parks around Grand World in the north if you are travelling with children.
The plan assumes you base on Long Beach, near Duong Dong, as our where to stay in Phu Quoc guide recommends for most first trips, and get around by Grab, electric taxi or scooter. The island is about 50 km from north to south, so distance is the main constraint: the plan keeps each day at one end. It works best from late November to April.
Day 1: the cable car and Sunset Town
09:00: Hon Thom cable car. Take a Grab south to An Thoi, 30-40 minutes from Long Beach, for the Sun World cable car. At 7,899.9 m it holds the Guinness record for the longest non-stop three-rope cable car, and the 15-minute ride crosses the An Thoi islands to Hon Thom. The 2026 adult ticket costs 850,000 VND, or 825,000 VND online, and 700,000 VND for children 1 to 1.4 m, and includes a drink and entry to the Kiss Bridge. The Hon Thom park is open from 09:00 to 17:00. Resellers say the ticket includes the island's water park, but the official ticket description does not, so check when you buy.
Afternoon: Hon Thom and a rest. Spend the late morning on Hon Thom's beach, then ride back and rest through the hottest hours.
17:00: Sunset Town. Sun Group's Mediterranean-style town near An Thoi is built for the evening: walk out to the Kiss Bridge, whose two halves almost touch over the sea, for sunset, then eat at VUI-Fest Bazaar, the market open from about 16:00 to midnight. The Kiss of the Sea show, with fireworks, water and light effects, starts at 21:00 and costs about 950,000 VND for a general ticket as of 2026; Sun World's booking page says it runs daily, while a Sun Group guide says there is no show on Tuesdays, so check before you plan around it. Take a Grab back to Long Beach afterwards.
Day 2: the An Thoi islands
08:00: island boat. The archipelago off the southern tip is the one thing on Phu Quoc no other Vietnamese beach can match. Shared speedboat trips pick you up from your hotel and usually visit Hon Mong Tay, Gam Ghi and May Rut, with snorkelling stops over coral and lunch on board or on an island. As of 2026, shared trips cost about 620,000 VND per person for the standard boat and 710,000 VND for the VIP, and packages with the cable car and lunch cost about 790,000 to 1.39 million VND. If you took the cable car on Day 1, book the boat alone. Our day trips from Phu Quoc guide compares the options.
16:00: back to Long Beach. Return in time for sunset on Long Beach, which faces west, and dinner in Duong Dong.
Day 3: Sao Beach and the island's food
Morning: Sao Beach. Bai Sao, on the south-east coast, is Phu Quoc's classic white-sand beach, about 25 km and 40 minutes from Duong Dong. The sand is free; sunbeds cost about 100,000 VND. Go early, before the tour groups arrive.
Midday: Ho Quoc pagoda and Ham Ninh. Stop at Ho Quoc, the hillside pagoda overlooking the east coast, open 6:00 to 18:00, then continue to Ham Ninh, the fishing village where restaurants serve flower crab for roughly 300,000 to 500,000 VND a kilo as of 2026. Ask the price per kilo first.
Afternoon: fish sauce and pepper. On the way back, visit a traditional fish sauce house in Duong Dong, where you can see the wooden fermentation barrels for free, and a pepper farm. Our Phu Quoc food guide explains what to eat and what you can fly home with.
With children: the north instead. Swap Day 3 for the north, where Grand World is free to enter and VinWonders costs 950,000 VND for adults and 710,000 VND for children 1 to 1.4 m, and Vinpearl Safari 850,000 VND and 650,000 VND, with a combined ticket at 1.5 million VND for adults. Grand World is about 45 km from Sunset Town, so this works best if you stay in the north or on Long Beach.
What three days costs
These are per-person estimates for the plan above, as of mid-2026, at about 26,000 VND to the dollar, excluding flights.
| Item | Budget | Mid-range |
|---|---|---|
| Three nights | $12-30 a night in town, $36-90 | $30-70 a night beachfront, shared by two, $45-105 |
| Hon Thom cable car | 825,000 VND online ($32) | 850,000 VND ($33) |
| An Thoi islands boat | about 620,000 VND ($24) | about 710,000 VND ($27) |
| Kiss of the Sea show | skip | about 950,000 VND ($37) |
| Getting around | scooter, about 450,000 VND for three days ($17) | Grab and taxis, $30-50 |
| Food and drinks | $30-50 | $60-100 |
| Total | roughly $140-215 | roughly $230-350 |
Where to base
For three days, Long Beach around Duong Dong is the best compromise: central, sunset-facing, with the widest range of rooms, at about $12-30 for town rooms and $30-70 for beachfront mid-range as of 2026. If the cable car and islands matter most, stay in the south near An Thoi and Sunset Town; stay in the north around Grand World only for the integrated resorts. Phu Quoc has changed fast: our is Phu Quoc worth it review is honest about the development.
Weather, visas and getting there
Phu Quoc's season runs opposite to the central coast. The dry season, from December to March, is the calmest and best for boats, and late November and April are good too; from May to October the south-west monsoon brings rain and rough seas, especially from July to September, when island trips are often cancelled. Our Phu Quoc weather guide has the month-by-month figures.
Phu Quoc offers 30 days visa-free to all nationalities who fly in directly from abroad, including those who transfer airside at another Vietnamese airport, but not to those who clear immigration elsewhere in Vietnam first. Flights from Ho Chi Minh City take about an hour; see our Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc guide and domestic flight prices guide.
Limitations
Ticket prices come from Sun World and VinWonders' official booking pages in September 2026 and change with the date, and boat prices are 2026 listings from local operators. Sources disagree on whether the Kiss of the Sea show runs on Tuesdays and whether the cable-car ticket includes the water park. The cost totals are estimates built from the line items above, not quotes.
Workaround: book the cable car online a day ahead for the discount, check the show schedule and the boat forecast the day before, and keep Day 2 flexible for the weather.
