For a first visit, the best place to stay in Quy Nhon is the city-centre beach, along Nguyen Hue and Xuan Dieu, with a landscaped promenade, seafood restaurants and easy transport. Choose Bai Xep, a car-free fishing village south of the city, for homestays and a slower pace; Nhon Ly, on the Phuong Mai peninsula, to be next to Ky Co and Eo Gio; and the southern coast for resorts. Quy Nhon is good value, with homestays and simple hotels from about 150,000 VND a night.
Quy Nhon sits on the quiet coast between Hoi An and Nha Trang, and our Quy Nhon and Phu Yen guide covers its beaches, Cham towers and islands. Since the 2025 reforms, Quy Nhon is the capital of Gia Lai province, which absorbed Binh Dinh, and the former city is divided into wards, including Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon Nam and Quy Nhon Dong; many listings still say Binh Dinh.
How the choice breaks down
| Area | Best for | Feel | Distance from centre | Typical price (2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| City-centre beach | First visits, food, transport | Clean city beach and promenade | In the centre | Most hotels in the city |
| Bai Xep | Backpackers, slow stays | Car-free fishing village | About 12-17 km south | Homestays |
| Nhon Ly and the peninsula | Ky Co, Eo Gio, beaches | Fishing villages, resorts | About 20 km | Guesthouses to resorts |
| Southern resort coast | Resorts, couples | Private beaches | South of Bai Xep | High-end resorts |
Across the city, VnExpress puts homestays, hostels and 2-3 star hotels at about 150,000 to 400,000 VND a night in 2026, and 4-5 star hotels and resorts at about 1.5 to 5 million VND.
The city-centre beach: the default
The city beach runs for about 6 km, much of it sand, backed by a beach park and promenade that are among the best in Vietnam, although the sand itself is not quite up to the best of Da Nang or Nha Trang. For the closest rooms to the beach, stay on Nguyen Hue or Xuan Dieu; for mid-range hotels one or two blocks back, look on Tay Son and An Duong Vuong. The seafood restaurants, cafés and the city's food streets are all within reach, and the airport bus, taxis and Grab start here.
It suits first visits, short stays and anyone without a motorbike. Ghenh Rang and Hoang Hau beach, about 3 km south, are sightseeing stops with free entry, not places to stay: go for the pebble beach, the hilltop views and the tomb of the poet Han Mac Tu.
Bai Xep: the car-free fishing village
Bai Xep is a small fishing village south of the city on the coast road, about 12 to 17 km from the centre depending on the source, with no cars in its lanes, homestays, seafood restaurants and a relaxed, backpacker-friendly feel. The coast is rocky and beach access is steep in places. It suits travellers who want a slower pace and do not mind simple facilities; you will need a motorbike, Grab or taxi for the city and the sights. Beside it, Bai Dai has high-end resorts on private beaches.
Nhon Ly and the Phuong Mai peninsula: for Ky Co and Eo Gio
Across the 2.5 km Thi Nai bridge, the Phuong Mai peninsula has dunes, rocky headlands and fishing villages, with resort projects at various stages. Nhon Ly, about 20 km from the centre, has small guesthouses and homestays and sits right beside Ky Co, about 25 km from the centre and often called the Maldives of Vietnam, and Eo Gio, a cliff-top viewpoint. Nhon Hai, closer to the bridge, is a fishing village with two beaches but few facilities, and no ATM.
Staying here means you can reach Ky Co and Eo Gio early, before the day-trippers. Ky Co itself is mostly a day trip, and its few beachfront places to stay are isolated. Public transport is limited, so you need a motorbike or car. Entry fees on the peninsula are changing: recent sources give 100,000 to 140,000 VND for Ky Co, and Eo Gio's fee has been disputed since its new operator tried to raise it in June 2026, so check on arrival.
Decision table: pick by traveller type
| You are | Stay |
|---|---|
| A first-time visitor | City-centre beach, on Nguyen Hue or Xuan Dieu |
| Without a motorbike | City-centre beach |
| A backpacker or slow traveller | Bai Xep |
| Here for Ky Co and Eo Gio | Nhon Ly |
| On a resort holiday | The southern coast or the peninsula resorts |
Getting there and around
By air. Phu Cat airport is about 30 to 35 km from the centre, or 30 to 50 minutes by road, with flights on Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet and Bamboo Airways. An airport bus runs to the city for about 50,000 VND, and taxis cost roughly 200,000 to 400,000 VND. Our domestic flight prices guide compares fares.
By train. All Reunification Express trains stop at Dieu Tri station, about 10 to 13 km from the centre by road, a taxi of about 80,000 to 120,000 VND. Quy Nhon's own station, about 3 km from the centre, is on a branch line with fewer services. Our train fares guide covers the tickets.
Around town. Grab operates, but with fewer cars than in bigger cities. For the peninsula and Bai Xep, rent a motorbike or book a car for the day.
Islands. Boats to Cu Lao Xanh cost about 350,000 VND return and to Hon Kho from about 100,000 VND, as of 2026, but they only run when the sea is calm.
When to go
The dry season, from about February to August, is best, with February to April the most comfortable and May to August sunny but very hot. September to December is the wet season, peaking in October and November: in November 2025 a typhoon and then a record flood hit the city within two weeks. Our Quy Nhon weather guide has the month-by-month figures, and our quietest beaches guide suggests other quiet stretches of coast.
Limitations
We found no reliable 2026 price survey by area, so the price bands are VnExpress's city-wide ranges. Distances to Bai Xep and Dieu Tri, and entry fees for Ky Co and Eo Gio, differ between sources and are changing. Since the 2025 reforms, some addresses use new ward names, while many listings still use the old ones.
Workaround: confirm your hotel's exact location and transport options before booking, check entry fees on arrival, and book flexible rooms between September and December.
